Neal Hughes

Dr. Neal Hughes is the Director of Missions for the Montgomery Baptist Association. In 2016, he returned to the River Region and the MBA after serving as the South Region Director of the North American Mission Board for eleven years. Prior to Neal’s service with NAMB, he served as pastor of churches in Atlanta, Montgomery, Birmingham, and Weatherford, Texas. Neal is a graduate of Samford University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Liberty University. Upon completing his Doctor of Ministry degree, Neal graduated with distinction in Church Revitalization. His thesis was: Sons of Nehemiah: Raising the Leadership Level of Pastor Revitalizers. Neal and his wife, Mary, have three grown children (and two grandchildren) living in Florida and Maryland. Our director of missions enjoys reading, fishing, exploring church/revivalist history, and watching SEC football. Neal’s life verse is Philippians 3:10, “I want to know Christ-yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.”

Robin Crowe

Robin serves as the director of operations for Montgomery Baptist Association and MBA Community Ministries. She has served the association since 2005 as an accountant and ministry assistant before becoming the director of operations. Robin has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Human Resource Management. Coming from a military family and having traveled since childhood, she doesn’t call any one place home but has lived in Montgomery for over thirty years. She and her husband, Dennis, have two daughters, Tara (Clyde) and Ann Marie. They also have their first granddaughter, Evila. Robin’s hobbies include photography and crafting. Her life lesson is that God is good in all seasons. Her life verses come from 1 Corinthians 9:19 and 23.

Telissa Harper

Telissa joined the Montgomery Baptist Association in 2024 as a ministry assistant. She is from Montgomery and has two children, Ellie Kate and James.

Mary Hughes

Debbie Jones

Debbie has directed the Samaritan Inn Ministry since 2010. She helps when a child or other family member has a health crisis and needs a place to stay through treatment and recovery. She was raised in Montgomery and has lived here with her husband Grant. They have a son and daughter-in-law, along with two granddaughters that she homeschools. Following graduation from Judson College, Debbie became a teacher. She enjoys her pets, antique shopping, reading, photography and traveling. One of her favorite verses is Isaiah 40:31, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Carl MacCarthy

Carl is a veteran of the Air Force. He retired from the U.S. military to serve in the Lord’s Army. He has been actively involved in the church since 2005 in various roles such as an elementary-age Sunday school teacher, media technician, and deacon.

He is a Community College of the Air Force graduate with an Associate in Applied Science: Information Systems Technology and a Liberty University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Religion: Christian Ministry and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies.

Carl is the pastor of River Bend Baptist Church in Lowndesboro, AL on a bi-vocational status and has been working with Montgomery Baptist Association and MBA Community Ministries, Inc. since September 2021. Starting in the Son’s of Nehemiah program, he was hired on as Missions Assistant, and is currently serving as the Operations Specialist.

Dewayne Rembert

Dewayne Rembert began serving Montgomery Baptist Association as Ministry Resident in February 2018. Originally from Linden, AL, he has lived in Montgomery for 22 years. He attended Troy State University of Montgomery and Birmingham Theological Seminary for classwork in evangelism and is continuing his studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Dewayne first heard the gospel when he was 26 years old. Having experienced grace in life-changing moments, it was God’s call to ministry that led him to serve as the youth pastor at Strong Tower Washington Park, an MBA church. In addition, he developed the youth ministry Flatline Movement. Dewayne enjoys playing basketball and listening to Christian rap music. He and his wife, Leslie, have three children. Dewayne’s life lesson is that it is better to obey God than to offer a sacrifice unto him.

Johnny Mills is the pastor of The Life Church. The Life Church is a newer church that has moved into The Community of Hope building on Southern Boulevard. The MBA, Flatline Church, and The Community of Hope support them in their God-given mission.
